Size does matter.

March 20, 2023 Victoria Ow

Private jets can be broken up into 7 primary classes, going from smallest to largest:

  • Very light jets

  • Light jets

  • Mid-size jets

  • Super-mid-size jets

  • Heavy jets

  • Ultra-long-range jets

  • Executive airliners, also known as bizliners

Regardless of the size or brand, APERTUS can help you charter any jet of your choosing, if you are unsure where to begin we will take the time to understand your needs and match the right business jet to you. Everyone is unique and so should your private charter experience, and we are always committed to providing the best service, and that starts with identifying the right business jet for charter.

In this article, we are going to focus on the biggest birds in the skies, the bizliners, we’ve run through the other sizes in another article which you can also read here!

The biggest of the business jets are the ultra-long-range jets. For example, the Gulfstream G650 and Bombardier Global 6000 provide over 2000 cubic feet of cabin volume. In comparison, the bizliners are the outliers – the biggest class of jets out there. Airbus and Boeing are the 2 primary manufacturers of the bizliners.

The Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) models, which are bizliners built from single-aisle airliners, are colossally larger ranging from 5,300 cubic feet to 8,547 cubic feet. The Boeing BBJ has a cabin volume of about 5,390 cubic feet. So yes, when we say large, we mean LARGE.

Executive airliners are either purpose-built or converted from commercial airliners previously retired from active airline use.

Yes, for example, some of the Airbus A380s with 525 seats and Boeing 747-8s with 467 seats have been converted for private use as bizliners with facilities that provide the pinnacle of in-the-sky luxury – many with configurations of only 10-20 seats.

This conversion process is also why bizliners have a much greater potential to be customisable according to the owners’ needs than business jets.

Say, you want 10 seats, a big fuel tank and a small baggage compartment? Or 20 seats with no baggage compartment and a huge fuel tank? Definitely possible with bizliners.

Fun Fact: Airbus converted the world's biggest commercial airliner into a bizliner before putting it up for sale – the Airbus ACJ380. With a price tag of about $400 million, only one order was ever made.

Master Bedroom in a BBJ

What most passengers like about the bizliners is the space. You’d be able to get up and move around as if you’re in your own home. Typically, they include a meeting/dining area, a stateroom (a permanent bedroom) with a master lavatory and perhaps a shower, a full galley, another lav for other passengers and crew, and an enclosed, closet-size crew rest seat.

Having a layout with dedicated sections means you can work or relax without having to worry about a disruptive and exhausting in-flight conversion – such as, say, turning seats into beds, as you have to do in business jets.

Business jets also usually do not have full-fledged meeting rooms or customisable cabin space like bizliners do (insert pictures for comparison) – their layout design is quite minimal.

Understandably, embassies, touring music groups, royal families and heads of state have been among those expressing interest in such aircraft. These passengers would most definitely need properly segmented areas so as to, for example, practise music or hold meetings while some other passengers might be sleeping in the stateroom. To charter these flying mansions, it costs relatively reasonable prices after comparing the cost of chartering heavy or long-range jets.

Fun Fact: Bizliners are built to fly 3,500 to 4,200 hours per year; a business jet typically flies about up to 1000 hours per year. Airbus and Boeing market the purchase of their aircraft by vouching for their reliability and lower cost of parts, and the ability to find a maintenance facility almost anywhere.

If you’d like to have a taste of these bizliners, do make a request to the APERTUS team. We will source these big bad boys for you. You would especially enjoy them if you’re travelling in a big group, on a long-haul flight and/or if you need to make multiple trips. Make yourself at home in these bizliners.
